Preserving the Past
Guiding our Future

TxLAF supports a wide range of initiatives for the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, but we’re especially passionate about preserving our great state’s history. From founding documents and maps to films, photographs, and more, we help TSLAC preserve the legacy of the Lone Star State for generations to come.

Did you know?

TSLAC preserves and documents the heritage and culture of Texas. We provide access to more than 200 million pages of archival documents and more than 2 million volumes of printed library materials.

There are more than 750,000 photographs in the archives, dating back to the earliest days of photography in the 1800s through the late 21st century.

The architectural drawing collections include plans for the State Capitol, Governor’s Mansion, Texas state parks, and the renovation of the Battleship Texas.

The flag collection consists of 40 flags and includes banners of three Mexican battalions captured at the battle of San Jacinto and a rare 28-star U.S. flag reflecting the annexation of Texas as the 28th state in the Union.

There is an extensive collection of more than 9,000 maps documenting the historic boundaries, topography, railroad lines, military forts, rivers and mountains, and other significant aspects of Texas.

The genealogical collections contain ship manifests, census figures, vital statistics indexes, county tax records, newspapers, and access to popular databases.
